Chemistry and Materials Science Seminar
Microplastics in the Environment: Sources, Sinks and Fate
Dr. Nathan Eddingsaas
Associate Professor
Chemistry and Materials Department
Rochester Institute of Technology
Event Details:
Plastic pollution is a global issue with numerous sources and significant consequences for both humans and the environment. The Collaborative for Plastics and the Environment is an interdisciplinary team of faculty members and students at RIT who are working to understand input, transport, fate, and effects of plastic pollution. In this talk I will highlight a few of these aspects focusing on how the chemists contribute to the overall goal of our collective. I will discuss the quantification of microplastics in different media as well as how plastics degrade in aquatic environments.
