Civic Engagement as Ethical Practice: Exploring Experiential Pedagogical Strategies that Foster Ethical Reasoning and Action
Learning Community Sessions
Teaching Ethical Perspectives: From the Canon, to the Classroom, to Community Engagement
Join us this spring for a learning community for faculty who teach courses that satisfy RIT’s Ethical Perspective, or who are interested in exploring how to incorporate an ethical perspective. The learning community will be co-led by Project Leaders of the NEH Teagle grant. During the sessions, we will discuss tools, frameworks, and ideas that can encourage students to think about and adopt ethical perspectives. As a group, we will brainstorm how to accomplish the following in our courses:
- Help students to act ethically and communicate collaboratively to achieve their objectives.
- Help students critically examine the principles and philosophies that influence their standpoints, perceptions, and decision-making processes.
- Help students recognize the extent to which cultural standards as well as institutional practices and values potentially oppress, marginalize, or create structures of power and privilege.
Session I: February 15 @ 10:30 am/CPC 1015: Led by Dr. Nickesia Gordon, School of Communication.
In this session, Dr. Gordon will share a set of community engagement curriculum strategies that help students connect to the course content while encouraging a sense of personal and social responsibility, perspective-taking, and concern for others
