“Real Options in the Real World: Dithering as Optimal Information Gathering”

The theory of real options was developed in the late 1980s to explain why companies wait until project net present value is significantly positive before investing. The insights gained also explain why we as individuals dither before making important irreversible decisions. This lecture will highlight how dithering leads to better decisions, with examples from romance to major furniture purchases.
