Everyday with the President: Exhibition and Panel Discussion
Opening Thursday, November 3rd at 4:30 pm: EVERYDAY WITH THE PRESIDENT: BERNIE BOSTON PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBIT AND FACULTY PANELEveryday with the President: Bernie Boston Photographs, 1967-1992 opens on November 3, 2016 at the William Harris Gallery. The exhibition features images by RIT graduate and nationally recognized photojournalist Bernie Boston. Photographs of five U.S. Presidents—Lyndon B. Johnson, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush and Bill Clinton—are drawnfrom the Bernie Boston Collection in RIT Archive Collections at The Wallace Center.A reception will take place from 4:30 to 6:30pm, with a faculty panel discussing campaign commercials and campaign rhetoric beginning at 5:00pm. The panel members are Sarah Burns, Grant Cos, Michael Brown, Kelly Martin and Sean Sutton, representing the departments of Communication, History, and Political Science from the College of Liberal Arts.As a photographer for major newspapers as well as a prestigious White House news photographer, Boston enjoyed extraordinary access to the presidents. He photographed the routine to the highly politicized as well as time with family and more personal moments. As Professor Therese Mulligan has written, “A primary aim of his work was to distill and portray the intimate character of each president, not the well-honed persona specially designed for media consumption.” Many of his photographs have not been published, and RIT Archive Collections is pleased to share this significant historical record of the American presidency. This exhibition and event are made possible through the generous support of the School of Photographic Arts and Sciences and The Wallace Center.WHEN: Thursday, Novermber 3, 2016 Reception: 4:30 - 6:30pm Faculty Panel Discussion @ 5:00pmWHERE: William Harris Gallery (3rd floor, Gannett Hall)
