Expressions of King's Legacy
Please join us for our 35th Anniversary of our Expressions of King's Legacy Celebration. This event celebrates the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.. This program is free and open to the public but does require registration. This year we are featuring Keynote Speaker Fredricka Whitfield. Fredricka Whitfield is an anchor for CNN/U.S. She is based in the network's world headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia. Whitfield anchors the weekend edition of CNN Newsroom.Since joining CNN in 2002, she has reported from all over the world including the Persian Gulf region during the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, Beijing during the 2008 Summer Olympic Games, London at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games and Washington, D.C. during the 2009 presidential inauguration.We will also hear words from Judge Robert L. Wilkins. Judge Wilkins was appointed to the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit on January 15, 2014. Judge Wilkins also played a key role in the establishment of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, serving as the Chairman of the Site and Building Committee of the Presidential Commission whose work led to the Congressional authorization of the museum and the selection of its location.The FISK Jubilee Singers will also be performing during our keynote program. The Fisk Jubilee Singers are vocal artists and students at Fisk University in Nashville, TN., who sing and travel worldwide. In 2008, the Fisk Jubilee Singers were selected as a recipient of the 2008 National Medal of Arts, the nation's highest honor for artists and patrons of the arts. The award was presented by President George W. Bush and first lady Laura Bush during a ceremony at the White House.
