Horizons: A House Divided

What would we have to give up to get the political system we want?

Every American is affected by the divisions and outrage that prevent us from making progress on urgent problems. In this dialogue, we will come together to deliberate on three options: reduce dangerous, toxic talk; make fairer rules for politics and follow them; and take control and make decisions closer to home. What are the benefits and drawbacks of each choice? Which one makes the most sense to you? As with most difficult issues, sound judgments depend on taking the time to consider the facts and listening to people with different experiences and perspectives.

Based on the National Issues Forums model for deliberative dialogues, the goal of Horizons is to promote active listening and dialogue rather than debate on difficult topics. In a space where students, faculty, and staff can approach what may seem like a difficult conversation in a respectful, educational, and constructive manner, attendees will come away with a greater understanding of others who hold diverse views and be able to form an educated opinion on challenging and complex issues our society faces today.

Free pizza and beverages will be provided. We cannot wait to see you there!
