Interior Design Presentations

Each year RIT’s Interior Design program kicks off the spring semester with a one-week design intensive charrette, called “hyperspace.” This weeklong interdisciplinary experience provides all Interior Design students the opportunity to propose a design solution that benefits the local community. This year’s hyperspace is a collaboration with Rochester Public Library. Student teams are tasked with redesigning the Central Library of Rochester and Monroe County’s “Secret Room.” It’s a small space with a near 100-year history that is still used for many scheduled programs and accessed through a hidden doorway.Students are proposing interior design packages that arouse a heightened sense of magic and mystery within the space. The goal is to create an experiential place of wonder for children as they find the hidden entrance and step into the “Secret Room” for an enriching experience. The public is invited to the reveal of this year’s interdisciplinary effort as student teams will present their concepts from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 17, in Booth Hall, room 3310. All are welcome to arrive early to preview the projects as well.
