Please join us for a lecture by award-winning New York Times journalist Kevin Sack, who will discuss his important new book on the 2015 racially-motivated killing of nine Black parishioners at Charleston's fabled Mother Emanuel Church. Hailed as one of the ten best books of 2025 by the New York Times Book Review, Mother Emanuel offers a sweeping history of the historic Black church that had been at the center of Civil Struggles in the South since its inception in the 19th century. Sack's book also examines the aftermath of 2015 tragedy, including discussions in and beyond the Charleston community about racial reconciliation and racial justice in the 21st century.

"A sweeping history of one of the nation’s most important African American churches and a profound story of courage and grace amidst the fight for racial justice — from Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Kevin Sack."
