Love Data Workshop: Benefits and Risks of using Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence

Over the past several years, data has become the world’s most valuable resource. In this presentation we will start with an intuitive introduction to Data Science, we will discuss the new model of generating and consuming data and we will explore applications of data analytics, machine learning and artificial intelligence, highlighting the advantages and vulnerabilities of these new technologies in the digital era.Dr. Michael Barbosu is Professor in the School of Mathematical Sciences and Director of the Data and Predictive Analytics Center at RIT. He is also leading RIT’s Space Exploration Group (SPEX) and the Data and Predictive Analytics Research Group. Previously he was Head of the School of Mathematical Sciences  at RIT and Chair of the Department of Mathematics at SUNY Brockport.Dr. Barbosu has a Ph.D. from Paris 6 University and Paris Observatory, France, and he completed an undergraduate degree and a second Ph.D. thesis in mathematics at UBB University, Cluj-Napoca, Romania. His research areas of interest are: Mathematical Modeling, Space Dynamics, Dynamical Systems, Big Data Analytics and Academic Management. This event is part of Love Data Week at RIT Libraries. Other Love Data events include: Interactive Art Powered by Data (February 7 @ 1:00)Considering Ethics in Mapping and Analyzing Local Narcotics Data (February 11 @ 3:00)Tiger Tech Talks: Protecting Your Data (February 12 @ 12:00)
