MAGIC Speaker Series Presents Pete Docter

MAGIC Spell Studios is delighted to welcome Pete Docter, Chief Creative Officer at Pixar Animation Studios as part of our MAGIC Speaker Series on Friday, April 14 at 1:00PM at the Wegmans Theater. Pete Docter is the Oscar®-winning director of “Monsters, Inc.,” “Up,” and "Inside Out." He most recently directed Disney and Pixar’s Oscar®-winning feature film “Soul” with producer Dana Murray and co-director Kemp Powers, which is now streaming on Disney+.

Starting at Pixar in 1990 as the studio’s third animator, Docter collaborated and helped develop the story and characters for “Toy Story,” Pixar’s first full-length animated feature film, for which he also was supervising animator. He served as a storyboard artist on “A Bug’s Life,” and wrote initial story treatments for both “Toy Story 2” and “WALL•E.” Aside from directing his four films, Docter also executive produced "Monsters University" and the Academy Award®-winning “Brave.”

In anticipation of what we know will be a very popular talk, we wanted to share the following guidelines that we have established for this event. Please note: seating in the theater is capped at 180. We cannot and will not exceed this number. When we have reached capacity in the theater, our staff will direct guests to our overflow location.
· This event will be streamed to the atrium to accommodate as many people as possible who are excited to see and hear Pete’s talk. There is some seating in the atrium, however we will not be setting up additional seating.
· Seating in the theater will be first-come, first-served. There will not be reserved seats or tickets for this event other than for access services. Again, please note that seating is capped at 180.
· Interpreters* have been requested for this event and seating will be reserved in front of the theater for those who need to see the interpreters. If we do not have guests in attendance who rely on sign language interpreters for communication, these seats will be released.
· Faculty are discouraged from requiring their students to attend the talk. We do not want to max out the seating capacity with numerous full classes. As an alternative, faculty could consider “canceling” your class so that students who may want to attend can do so. We hope that this is a more fair and equitable solution.
· At Pixar’s request, this talk will NOT be recorded.

If you have any questions about this event, please contact our Events and Social Media Manager, Eva Sarachan-Dubay at esdmss@rit.edu

MAGIC Spell Studios would like to extend our special thanks to Professor Flip Phillips for helping to facilitate Pete’s visit.
