POSTPONED: Vignelli Talk: Patricia Moore '74
Please note that this event is postponed.
Patricia Moore ’74 (Industrial Design), an internationally renowned designer and gerontologist, is delivering a talk as part of the Vignelli Center for Design Studies’ Design Observations series. She will be in conversation with Josh Owen, distinguished professor and Industrial Design undergraduate program director.
The event — free and open to the public — is set for 4:45 p.m. Thursday, March 19, in University Gallery (Booth Hall, second floor).
Moore’s career of difference-making achievements was recognized in 2019 with a distinguished Cooper Hewitt National Design Award in the Design Mind category. The National Design Awards — conceived by Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum — annually honors lasting success in American design.
From 1979 to 1982, Moore traveled throughout North America disguised as elder women — her body altered to simulate the normal sensory changes associated with aging — to better respond to people, products and environments.
Moore’s clients include Johnson & Johnson, Maytag, NASA, OXO, Pfizer, Procter & Gamble and Whirlpool, and she has designed more than 300 physical medicine and rehabilitation environments for healthcare facilities throughout North America, Europe and Japan. Named one of the world’s 40 most socially conscious designers by ID magazine, Moore is the author of numerous articles and books, including Disguised: A True Story, Aging, Ingenuity and Design and The Business of Aging (forthcoming).
