Rest is Resistance
When we discuss worldbuilding and storytelling, we often focus on the sources of tension that drive the plot. This includes characters' internal struggles and also the challenges they face in the worlds in which they live, and such stories help shed light on our own individual stresses and prompt us to confront injustices we see in our world. All of this struggling and striving comes at the price of exhaustion: physical, mental, and spiritual.
Rest is Resistance is a day-long event sponsored by the Center for Worldbuilding and Storytelling, the School of Individualized Study, and the College of Liberal Arts Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Using Tricia Hersey's provocative book Rest is Resistance as our guide, students, faculty, and staff are invited to drop in and contemplate what it means to decompress, unwind, and rest, and how mindfulness and self-care serve as acts of resistance to grind culture that wears us down and leaves us depleted.
The day will feature talks, roundtable discussions, and activities meant to help you better understand and appreciate our need for rest. We invite all member of the RIT community to join us in taking some time out of your hectic day, unplug, and rest.
