RIT Climate Leadership Summit
The Rochester Institute of Technology has been selected as one of five locations throughout the nation to host a Climate Summit sponsored by the National Campus Leadership Council, Defend our Future, and the New York Water Environment Association. Summary of Activities: This event is a Climate Summit designed to educated student leaders on current issues that have a profound effect on our climate. The Summit will follow a problem-solution-action framework in order to equip students with not only the knowledge of the problems that are occurring, but the tools and know-how to enact change on their campuses and in their communities. In addition to focusing on a problems-to-action timeline, the summit will also be divided around four main topics: Water, Energy, Food, and Transportation. We believe these areas are not only integral to sustainability solutions we face now, but also translate well to students in their own lives and on their campuses. Attendees can focus on one or more of these subjects during the day. We plan to bring in experts in these topics from the Greater Rochester Area, so that their messages are practical and applicable to the students attending from local colleges. Students will also hear from their peers- those who are currently leading the way in solving these problems on their campuses. We feel it is necessary to showcase the people actually working on these problems at their own schools, and how they have, or plan to, accomplish these goals.
