Rochester, NY Italian Americans Life, Politics, and Culture

Join us to learn about and to celebrate the Italian American community of Rochester, NY through a multifaceted event that showcases research, collections, and documentary filmmaking.

The event includes a poster session featuring research conducted by RIT students’ focusing on the history of the Italian diaspora communities from the late 1800s through today. In addition, artifacts from Rochester Museum & Science Center, Italian American Collection Archives, and objects from the Caltanissetta, Sicily (Rochester, NY Sister City) family displays. The exhibition is co-curated by Prof. Elisabetta D’Amanda, RIT Italian Studies Program Coordinator, Kathryn Murano RMSC Senior Director, Collections and Curation, and Museum Studies major, Gabrielle Payne (class of 2026). Complementing the exhibit and poster session is a screening of “As Good As Bread,” a 12-minute film on the Italian Americans in Rochester by Elisabetta d’Amanda.

The curators of the exhibit welcome Italian American families to come to the event and tell their personal oral history during the event.
