SAISD to host 45th anniversary celebration March 20

Join NTID’s Substance and Addiction Intervention Services for the Deaf 1-5 p.m. on Thursday, March 20, 2025, in the Dyer Arts Center, located in LBJ Hall on the RIT campus, to celebrate 45 years of drug and addiction prevention and education services for the deaf and hard-of-hearing community at RIT/NTID and in the Greater Rochester area.

In recognition of SAISD’s founding in 1979, we invite you to an open house and roundtable event—“In Real Life Conversation,” where special guests will share their personal journey of substance use, addiction, and recovery. The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required and limited to 100 attendees. If you plan to attend this event, please register by March 7, 2025.

Interpreters have been requested. Light appetizers and beverages will be provided.

Following the roundtable, the award-winning documentary Being Michelle will be shown in Panara Theater, just steps away from the Dyer Arts Center. The film tells the story of a deaf woman with autism who survived incarceration and abuse. The screening will begin at 6:30 p.m., and for those who wish to attend, dinner will be provided at 5 p.m.

This event is made possible through partnerships with NTID’s Department of Deaf Education, Counseling and Academic Advising Services, and Title IX.

For more information, please contact Susan Demers, counselor of Substance and Addiction Intervention Services for the Deaf, at sadsai@rit.edu.

We look forward to celebrating this milestone anniversary with you.
