Seventeen RIT College of Art and Design students are showcasing works in “20emerging,” local organization ImageOut’s annual juried exhibition.

The public opening reception is set for 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 6, at Gallery Q (100 College Ave., #100, Rochester 14607).

ImageOut presents LGBT arts and cultural experiences showcasing films, other creative works and artists to promote awareness, foster dialogue and build community. Gallery Q, part of the Out Alliance, provides an opportunity for community members to experience art and for artists to bring their work to the community.

The annual “emerging” exhibition was established in 2017 with the recognition that Rochester and its surrounding area are home to many amazing university art programs. This year’s exhibition highlights 26 artists from six universities and includes a wide range of media from sculpture to painting to photography to fiber arts. The show provides opportunities for students to gain exhibition experience while presenting emerging talents in our community.

“This year we received a record number of submissions,” said ImageOut art committee chair and Gallery Q coordinator Al Carver-Kubik, also a research scientist in RIT’s Image Permanence Institute. “The ‘emerging’ exhibition is always a great show. We are very excited about the selections for this year.”

“20emerging” will be on view through April 23.

The College of Art and Design students selected for the show are: Parker Bryant-Carty, Jihye Choi, Nathan DeFreest, Yahui Gao, Rachel Yan Gu, Shirley Guo, Alexander Iglesias, Shayna Kiblin, Kiana Manners, Joe Matty, Michael Alberto Perez-Gelinas, Bing Reising, Hannah Roser, Drew Slickmeyer, Carly Trine, Jeehoon Yu and Ryan Zimmerman.
