RIT students are invited to participate in a day of workshops led by a trio of world-renowned typeface designers: visiting artist Juan Villanueva and Georg Seifert and Rainer Erich Scheichelbauer, the originators of font editing software Glyphs. Seifert and Scheichelbauer are RIT's 2026 Frederic W. Goudy Award recipients.

The workshops, open to all RIT students, cover a range of topics related to typeface design on Saturday, April 11.

If interested in reserving a spot in any of them, please email Steve Matteson at srmfaa@rit.edu.

Expressive Lettering with Juan Villanueva

10 a.m.-1 p.m.
Booth Hall, 3550

In this hands‑on workshop, participants will use analog tools to explore how form, gesture, and contrast bring letters to life. Through quick guided exercises and a final project, students will experiment with mark‑making, develop a personal lettering concept, and create an expressive finished piece rooted in their own creative voice. Open to beginners and experienced designers alike, this session emphasizes creativity, self‑expression, and learning through drawing. No prior lettering experience required.

What Students Should Bring

  • A sketchbook for notes and thumbnails
  • Pencils and an eraser
