Vignelli Center Lecture: Carl Gustav Magnusson
The Vignelli Center for Design Studies presents Carl Gustav Magnusson for its Design Conversations Lecture Series. The talk is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, in Wegmans Theater (MAGIC Spell Studios).
About Carl Gustav Magnusson
Carl Gustav Magnusson is Swedish born, educated in architecture at Chalmers Institute of Technology, Gothenburg. He worked for the Office of Charles and Ray Eames in Venice, Calif., then opened his eponymous studio in Rudlof Schindler’s house in L.A., initially to design a blood bank ceiling AV system.
With Knoll, he worked as director of design for 29 years in New York, Paris, London and Milan, and commissioned designers Ettore Sottsass, Gianfranco Frattini, Ross Lovegrove, Frank Gehry, the Vignellis and Mia Lin, amongst others. He co-founded the Knoll Museum and initiated the Knoll Design Symposium at Cranbrook Academy of Art.
In 2005 formed CGM Design, and designed products and exhibitions for Knoll, Spinneybeck, MoMA, Teknion, Allseating, Porsche 000, BMW and Momentum amongst others. He lectures and jurors in NA and Europe.
He has received over 50 design awards and 20 patents and is a board member of the Bertoia Foundation and M.A.D. Workshop. Humanitarian projects include the “Micra-Ambulance,” a life-saving concept of slipping through traffic.
