Vignelli Center Lecture: Emanuela Frattini and Carl Gustav Magnusson

The Vignelli Center for Design Studies presents Emanuela Frattini Magnusson and Carl Gustav Magnusson for its Design Conversations Lecture Series. The talk is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, in Wegmans Theater (MAGIC Spell Studios).

About Emanuela Frattini Magnusson

Emanuela Frattini Magnusson is the founder and principal of EFM Design, an international, award-winning, multidisciplinary practice that spans architecture, interiors, product design, brand development, and graphics.

Notable architectural projects include the Aqua townhouse development project in Miami, retail concepts for Russell Athletic, offices and showrooms for Knoll International, various art galleries and studios, a Times Square Hotel and restaurant, as well as number of residential projects in the United States and Europe, including the renovation of a Frank Lloyd Wright House in Rye, New York.

She has worked as the creative director of Spinneybeck leather. From 2013-17 she has been Global Head of Design at Bloomberg LP, overseeing the design of their spaces at the intersection of local culture and global brand.

Emanuela is a Board Member of NYCxDesign, a not-for-profit that promotes the role of design in both education and business. She is the president of Gianfranco Frattini Studio, the archival institution that interacts with manufacturers and cultural institutions for re-editions and exhibitions of her father’s work.

Throughout her career, she has created award-winning, top-selling products for leading manufacturers, including her Propeller Tables for Knoll, and a collection of accessories sold exclusively through the Museum of Modern Art. Emanuela has also served as a visiting faculty member at Parsons School of Design and at Yale University School of Architecture. Her architectural and design work has been widely published in the United States and Europe. With an MA in architecture from the Milan Politecnico, she also holds an MBA from New York University's Stern School of Business and is LEED accredited.

About Carl Gustav Magnusson

Carl Gustav Magnusson is recognized as one of the most acclaimed industrial designers.
Swedish born and educated in architecture, he has dedicated his career to the profession of design. He worked with the Eames Office on projects ranging from the IBM Mathematica Exhibit to the Eames Chaise, then opened his own studio in Rudolf Schindler’s House in LA. At Knoll for 29 years, as director of global design in USA & Europe for three decades, commissioned designers such as Richard Sapper, Ettore Sottsass, Mia Linn, Ross Lovegrove and Frank Gehry.
He established the Knoll Design Symposium at Cranbrook Academy and co-founded The Knoll Museum.

His New York based firm, CGM Design, has created products for Knoll, Spinneybeck, Nienkamper, Teknion, MoMA, BMW and the City of St. Moritz. CGM Design has won 50 plus design awards since 2005. He has written on design, book chapters and magazine articles and photographed for Domus. He has lectured at universities and museums such as Yale and Neue Pinakothek, Munich; and curated exhibits for BMW in Stuttgart and Berlin. He serves as a board member of The Bertoia Foundation and Madworkshop.
