Vignelli Center Lecture: Hector Silva

The Vignelli Center for Design Studies presents Hector Silva, founder of Advanced Design, for its Design Conversations Lecture Series.
The event is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, in Wegmans Theater (MAGIC Spell Studios).
About Hector Silva
Hector Silva founded Advanced Design in 2016 to address the disconnect between design education and industry demands. As an educator and designer, Silva saw the limitations of traditional academia and built a small team to bridge these gaps through hands-on workshops connecting students and professionals. Over five years, AD has grown into a key player in design education, offering workshops, highlighting industry excellence, and building diversity. Its most ambitious initiative is the creation of its own design school, with a team of over 30 members and a growing global community.
AD is dedicated to increasing diversity in design, particularly by supporting underrepresented groups who face systemic barriers. With Black designers making up only 1.5% and women only 18.6% of the industrial design community, AD aims to highlight diverse role models and support excluded students. Through initiatives like the BIPOC scholarship fund, AD ensures that its student body is 65-72% BIPOC and 38-45% female or gender non-conforming. This commitment is reflected in AD’s 100% minority-staffed Board of Directors and its diverse, multicultural team. AD believes that a more inclusive industry leads to more inclusive design.
