“The Quest for Me: Confessions of a Deaf Queer Scholar”

In this presentation, Dr. Wight will share details of his early life, and follow his K-12 childhood journey as he navigated becoming deaf, accomplished language acquisition, and his quest for dueling identities. Dr. Wright will then describe various mentors and influential individuals who have shaped his life and planted the early seeds of his quest for knowledge, which eventually lead to him becoming a scholar. The second half of this presentation focuses on the establishment of the Deaf Metaliteracy Lab (DML) at NTID, and Dr. Wright’s current research agenda as it relates to the domains of Metaliteracy, particularly that of cultural and health literacies.
