Console Development Lab

The Console Development Lab is devoted to research in media systems, including game engine software architecture, gameplay systems, low level coding practices, optimization, and parallel systems. In collaboration with Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), Inc. we have several Sony Playstation Development kits for use in coursework, game development, and research.

The lab also collects old consoles and games for study. The Console Development course (IGME-753) is an upper level elective in the Master's program in Game Design and Development where historical console development on machines such as the Atari-2600 is studied along with modern development practices utilizing paradigms such as data-oriented development.
