Computer Safeguard Techniques Highlight RIT´s Security Week, Dec. 6-10

Understanding the minds and motivations of computer hackers is the best way to defend against them. That's why Rochester Institute of Technology plans a series of workshops that offers computer users the upper hand.

Security Week, Dec. 6-10, features a variety of sessions highlighting techniques to safeguard individual computers and networks. Activities take place across the RIT campus and are sponsored by RIT's Information and Technology Services.

Workshops for Security Week focus on a wide range of topics including intrusion detection strategies, the Patriot Act, national cyber security initiatives and computer forensics.

Sarah Gordon, senior research associate for Symantec Corp., is the keynote speaker. Gordon provides insights on hackers and virus writers while discussing how the information technology industry is protecting systems from attacks. Her presentation is 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 7, in Xerox Auditorium, James E. Gleason Building.
