A Day to Celebrate - RIT Hosts Earth Day Events, April 23
A Honda Insight—a hybrid powered gasoline-electric car—provided by Holtz Honda and an electric car from the Department of Environmental Conservation will be on display.
From 10 to 11 a.m., the Zoo Mobile will visit and children from Margaret’s House, RIT’s on-campus day care, will create sidewalk chalk drawings. Starting at noon, free pizza will be served in the Fireside Lounge.
More than 20 environmentally-related booths will provide information and interactivity on everything from whitewater rafting to air pollution to a quiz on which everyday containers can be recycled. Throughout the day, students offer a bring-your-own-T-shirt tie-dye event, using, of course, environmentally friendly dyes.
The other half of RIT’s Earth Day celebration encompasses industry success stories and the work of RIT’s National Center for Remanufacturing and Resource Recovery (NCR3).
NCR3 hosts Remanufacturing and Recycling in Rochester: An Earth Day Celebration of our Success, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Center for Integrated Manufacturing Studies (CIMS), Louise M. Slaughter Building.
RIT, Xerox Corp., Eastman Kodak Co., the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) and Empire State Development sponsor the free, public event featuring the environmental successes of more than 30 Rochester companies.
Several alternative-fuel vehicles will be on display, including a Toyota Prius hybrid-fuel sedan and a Ford Ranger electric truck exhibited by Harbec Plastics and an electric-powered replica of the Shelby Cobra racecar of the 1960s, provided by Electric Grand Prix Corp.
