Discover Your “Star Power” at RIT Student Film Auditions

Tryouts for film and video productions set for Oct. 23

If you’ve ever dreamed of being “discovered,” here’s your chance. Student filmmakers from Rochester Institute of Technology are looking for professional and amateur actors to take part in this year’s film and video productions.

Open auditions will take place Thursday, Oct. 23, in the fourth-floor TV studio area of the Frank E. Gannett Building, located on RIT’s Henrietta campus. Tryouts for children under 14 begin at 6 p.m. Teenagers and adults get their chance at approximately 7 p.m. Actors and musicians of all ages and various levels of experience are invited to attend.

“This is a great opportunity for anyone to get some semiprofessional time in front of the camera while contributing to our students’ academic experiences,” says Howard Lester, chair of RIT’s School of Film and Animation. “They’ll be working in films and videos that, like many that have come out of our school, play over national cable TV or at well-known film festivals.”

Auditions include reading from a script, having a photo taken and filling out a short questionnaire. Students will discuss their film or video projects and register actors in the student-run “Actors File” that will be used throughout the year.

For anyone that’s camera shy, actors with oral skills are needed to voice over live-action and animated productions.
