Globalization on the Big Screen—RIT Gannett Lecture Series to Include Films

What’s the trouble with NAFTA?
An obscure provision of the North American Free Trade Agreement is the subject of the documentary, Bill Moyers Reports: Trading Democracy (Chapter 11), to be shown at Rochester Institute of Technology on Thursday, Jan. 23. The film—free and open to the public—will start at 7:30 p.m. in the George Eastman Building, room 2000.
In a departure from its traditional lecture format, the Gannett series will use various films to illustrate the complexity and consequences of globalization and its impact on human rights and citizenship.
Bill Moyers Reports: Trading Democracy (Chapter 11) uncovers a NAFTA agreement that gives multinational corporations the power to demand compensation when financially harmed by laws aimed at protecting the environment or public health. The film examines three recent lawsuits filed under NAFTA.
The film is free and open to the public. Sign-language interpretation will be provided.
