Largest Part of Heidelberg Press Arrives at RIT this Friday
The largest piece of a state-of-the-art printing system-the "folder"-arrives at Rochester Institute of Technology this Friday.
Installation of a Heidelberg Sunday 2000 web press is underway at RIT’s Henrietta campus. The equipment is going into the recently-completed Heidelberg Web Press Laboratory, an 11,000-square-foot facility adjacent to the Louise M. Slaughter Building.
The folder will arrive on campus via tractor trailer on Friday, Oct. 25, beginning at 8 a.m. The equipment will be lifted, by crane, and set in place at around 9:30 a.m. The media is invited to cover this important step in the installation process.
Consigned to RIT by Heidelberg, the press is valued on the market at between $7 and $10 million. It will be used for research and educational purposes within RIT’s School of Print Media and for extensive applied research for the web offset printing market. The press is scheduled to be operational in February.
