Managing Faculty and Staff Vacancies
Dear University Faculty and Staff,
We are committed to keeping you informed as we navigate the evolving landscape of potential changes to federal funding sources. While our institution remains financially sound, we are taking proactive steps to address challenges that could result from proposed funding reductions and broader economic uncertainties.
In light of these factors, we are taking a cautionary approach to managing faculty and staff vacancies. Current searches that have active interviews and offers in process may proceed. For the foreseeable future, however, open faculty positions and searches will be reviewed by the provost, and most open staff positions will be subject to a pause in recruitment efforts. The need for this pause will be reexamined when we have a better understanding of the federal funding environment for higher education.
A careful review process will allow us to prioritize critical needs and exercise fiscal prudence. Positions that are needed to maintain our core academic and operational functions will be discussed with the affected leadership of that division. By carefully managing hiring, we can mitigate potential financial risks and maintain the long-term stability of the university. We have used this strategy successfully in the past to protect our programs and talented people.
This decision is not a reflection of our current financial standing, but rather a proactive measure to ensure our continued strength and resilience in the face of potential challenges. We are committed to maintaining the high quality of education and support that our students and community expect.
We recognize and deeply appreciate the dedication and hard work of our faculty and staff. Your contributions and commitment to our students, our community, and each other are what make RIT such a special university.
Thank you for your collaboration and understanding as we navigate this time of uncertainty. Together, we will ensure a strong future for RIT.
Sincerely,
