RIT surpasses $1 billion campaign goal funding scholarships, research, and facilities
RIT has surpassed the $1 billion goal for Transforming RIT: The Campaign for Greatness, the university’s blended campaign. A recent $1 million gift from John Traver ’10 (motion picture science) for an endowed professorship in the College of Art and Design “put us over the top,” according to RIT President David Munson.

In Ilya Kaminsky’s Deaf Republic, villagers’ deafness becomes an act of revolt against a totalitarian government, and their use of sign language unites them as a community. These themes, along with others throughout the book, resonate with the contemporary experience of deafness in the United States.

‘Ordinary Days’ is extraordinary musical theater
RIT’s University Gallery is the perfect venue for an upcoming play where much of the plot takes place in New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. Ordinary Days runs at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 30, through Sunday, April 2, in the gallery, in Booth Hall.

Alumni revamp scholarship honoring founding faculty of the School of Film and Animation
Alumni from RIT’s School of Film and Animation are working together to fund a scholarship that honors all of the faculty who helped form the school. The SOFA Founding Faculty Scholarship will be available to students enrolled in programs within SOFA to support their creative endeavors outside of the classroom.

Researcher receives funding to improve infrastructure safety for nuclear waste disposal
Researchers at RIT are investigating the combined physical effects of heat, chemical reactions, and seismic activity on concrete lining structures used to dispose of nuclear waste. Results from the work could improve nuclear waste infrastructure designs, better long-term safety management, and refine strategies to meet climate change targets.

RIT acquires equipment from Vanguard Automation to advance photonics packaging research and development
RIT recently acquired Vanguard Automation’s SONATA 1000 3D-nanoprinter, a next-generation technology for advanced photonic packaging and integration. The new equipment will advance how the university is solving the challenges of building and using photonic integrated circuit chips, lasers, and optical fibers.
