    Some children from Margaret’s House received a copy of New Day, New Friends after a reading for World Read Aloud Day Feb. 24. Juliana Culbert was one of several librarians from The Wallace Center reading to children. The international reading day was launched by LitWorld in 2010 to improve literacy worldwide.

    One SpiRIT: Global Unification connected RIT students from around the world. The event presented recorded performances by student groups in Rochester, Dubai, Dubrovnik, Kosovo and Zagreb. Judges decided the Zagreb group had the best act.

    Second-year environmental sustainability, health and safety student Caleb Novko tackled the snow and mud at the Winter Warrior obstacle course during FreezeFest on Feb. 20. The fundraiser, sponsored by Phi Kappa Psi and Sigma Chi, collected money for Veterans Outreach Center in Rochester.

The first-time event drew over 85 participants and was taught by psychology professor Jennifer Lukomski. Attendees were treated to Dannon yogurt following the class.

    Fourth-year computer engineering student Mike Valentin from the Dominican Republic tried his luck at Jenga at Gracie’s Game Night Feb. 17. Playdate Rochester provided board games, a disc jockey, see ball and hula hoops. Gracie’s had a special menu of appetizers, main dishes and desserts to munch on.

    First-year electrical engineering student Maria Melchiorre was first in a long line for FreezeFest blankets on Wednesday. FreezeFest is RIT’s celebration of winter with events including entertainment, a 5K run, a photo booth, ice sculpture and more. RIT’s seventh annual FreezeFest is Feb. 18-21.
