Naomi Games discussed her father’s career as a graphic designer and his exhibit “A Record of Britain’s Social History” in the University Gallery. Abram Games (1914-1996) was a prominent British graphic designer known for his bold designs and use of color and typography. Fifty posters and other examples of his work are on display through March 9 in the University Gallery.

Members of the RIT women’s hockey team celebrated its 4-2 win over Mercyhurst on Jan. 18 at the Gene Polisseni Center. The Tigers have now won four straight games and head to College Hockey America leader Robert Morris University for a pair of games this weekend. The Tigers are tied for third in the league standings and are 8-4-1 over their last 13 games.

Greg Pollock ’12 (professional and technical communication) delivered the keynote address at RIT’s second annual Let Freedom Ring event in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The ceremony also included dance and musical performances, excerpts from some of King’s most notable speeches and a multicultural reception. RIT will also honor King with the 37th annual Expressions of King’s Legacy event from noon to 2 p.m. on Jan. 31 in RIT’s Gordon Field House and Activities Center.

Michael Hosaluk, an internationally known Canadian woodworker, demonstrated woodturning techniques to a group of students from the School for American Crafts’ furniture design program during his visit Jan. 17. Hosaluk’s work has been exhibited worldwide; he lives near Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

203 examples of artwork from students in high schools and middle schools of the Rochester and Finger Lakes region are on display in Bevier Gallery through Feb. 2. An opening reception for START HERE 2019 is Jan. 18 at 5:00 p.m.

Assistant Director for Spirituality and Religious Life Monica Sanford kicked-off a new speaker series to support spiritual well-being Jan. 15. Held in the Allen Chapel on Tuesdays at 2:30 p.m., the upcoming speakers are Brandon Stroud (Residence Coordinator) on Jan. 22 and Odessa Despot (Staff Psychologist) on Jan. 29. The speaker is followed by tea and cookies and an opportunity to mingle.

Students observed an experiment with a candle oscillator during a lab demonstration in the College of Science. Undergraduate students from across the country gathered at RIT this week to take part in the Workshop on Excitable Systems supported by the National Science Foundation. Led by Elizabeth Cherry, the workshop gave students an opportunity to learn about excitable and oscillatory systems from theoretical, experimental, and computational perspectives.

The retreat, held Jan. 3-4 in Wallace Library, is a program offered to support faculty to become more confident writers. It’s sponsored by University Writing Program and Faculty Career Development in Innovative Learning Institute.

Katherine Huang, a 10th grader at Pittsford Mendon High School, presents her business plan at the DECA competition. Hundreds of high school students came to RIT Dec. 20 for the New York State Region 10 DECA Competition, hosted by Saunders College of Business. DECA students presented their business plans to local business leaders who served as the competition’s judges. A variety of subjects were at the center of each business plan including accounting applications, business finance, marketing management and retail merchandising. Competition winners advanced to the New York State DECA International Career Development Conference which will be held in April 2019.
