This is the sixth year the Arnold Air Societyâa professional and honorary service organization comprised of ROTC cadets from regional officer candidate training and university ROTC programsâcoordinated the event with support from RITâs Air Force ROTC Detachment 538. -

RIT has been awarded $1 million from the Howard Hughes Medical Instituteâs Inclusive Excellence Initiative to increase diversity and inclusivity among undergraduate science majors. The Howard Hughes Medical Instituteâs Inclusive Excellence Initiative is a five-year science education grant to develop future scientists reflecting the nationâs diversity. RIT is one of 24 institutions selected to develop strategies for expanding access to science education to all students. These initiatives will serve as national models for other institutions. -

The RIT/NTID Student Life Teamâs annual Apple Festival celebrates the beginning of the academic year and welcomes first-year and returning students back to campus. The festival is an opportunity for faculty, staff, and students to eat all things apple, enjoy entertainment and games, make friends, and learn how to get involved in a variety of clubs and organizations on campus. This yearâs 20th festival on Sept. 1 was held in the D. Robert Frisina Quad. -

RITâs 12th Lighting the Way Ceremony, sponsored by the Center for Women & Gender, is a welcoming event for female freshmen and transfer students. All women students, faculty and staff of RIT are welcomed to join the walk to show that women are welcomed and a valued part of the RIT community. -

Freshmen, transfer, graduate and returning students walk the quarter mile as the fall semester begins. 2,800 first-year students, 560 transfer students and 1,000 students beginning graduate study are new to RIT this fall. -

RIT Athletics held its annual all-athlete meeting on Aug. 27 at the Gordon Field House to kick off the 2017-18 season. Executive Director of Athletics Lou Spiotti, along with special guest speaker Scott MacNair â93, former menâs hockey standout and president of Stryker Canada, spoke to all 675 RIT student-athletes. On Sept. 1, menâs and womenâs cross country, menâs and womenâs soccer and volleyball play in their first contests of the season. -
