Red Jacket High School Graduates Named RIT Volpe Scholars
Rochester Institute of Technology has named two new recipients of the Charles E. and Andrea Volpe Engineering Scholarship.
Rachel Hart of Manchester and Danielle Allen of Shortsville will receive four-year, full-tuition scholarships starting this fall. Each plans to study electrical engineering in RIT’s Kate Gleason College of Engineering. They will be among four Volpe Scholars studying full time at RIT during the 2006-2007 academic year.
Because Hart, class valedictorian, and Allen, class salutatorian, were both outstanding scholarship candidates, it was decided that this year’s award would be shared. Hart, daughter of Michael and Martha Hart, and Allen, daughter of Michael and Robin Allen, have also been awarded RIT merit scholarships.
The Charles E. and Andrea Volpe Engineering Scholarship, established in 2003, targets students from Red Jacket High School interested in studying engineering, engineering technology or computing at RIT. The scholarship is named for Charles Volpe, a 1954 graduate of Red Jacket High School (in the Manchester-Shortsville Central School District) and a 1959 RIT mechanical engineering alumnus, and his wife, Andrea. Charles Volpe is the retired president and chief operating officer of KEMET Electronics Corp. in Simpsonville, S.C. They reside in Charleston, S.C.
Members of the Volpe family are expected to attend this year’s Red Jacket High School graduation ceremony at 1 p.m. June 24 in the high school auditorium, 1506 Route 21, Shortsville.
