Remembering Angela Hauser
Dear RIT and NTID colleagues and friends,
I am sad to bring you the news of the passing of our friend and colleague, Angela Hauser.
Originally from Rockville, Connecticut, Angela joined NTID in 2000 and was a sought-after ASL interpreter who went on to become an interpreting manager in NTID’s Department of Access Services. She mentored many interpreters and fostered diversity, equity, and inclusion within DAS and among deaf students throughout campus.
Prior to coming to NTID, she was a medical interpreter in Maryland, Washington, D.C., Florida, and locally at Strong Hospital. Angela co-edited a book on deaf professionals and designated interpreters, with her beloved ex-husband, Peter Hauser, Professor and researcher in psychology. Her time and research into the interpreting field led to her often being sought out for many notable presenters and performances on stage. She graduated from Western Maryland College with a bachelor’s degree in English, specializing in British Literature and Deaf Education.
Angela’s most precious achievement was the birth and raising of her beloved daughter Nya Hauser, whom is a current RIT student. Angela was also a devoted daughter to her mother Ollie Brooks, sister to her brother Tony Brooks, and Auntie to his son Noah.
Angela was always quick to offer words of praise, kindness, and love to others. She was a gifted storyteller, signer, interpreter, and communicator. Angela embodied selflessness, compassion, and deep care for others—even while enduring numerous health challenges, including kidney disease, an extraordinary transplant match from Peter, and, more recently, a battle with aggressive cancer. Through it all, she met every hardship with unwavering humor, courage, love, kindness, and grace.
Angela’s laughter, wit, compassion, and determination impressed all who knew and loved her. She will be greatly missed.
Formal arrangements are yet to be made, but a GoFundMe has been established in Angela’s name to help cover medical debts and to support her daughter and mother through this difficult time.
Please keep Angela’s family, colleagues and friends in your thoughts as we all mourn her passing.
