RIT Air Force RIT cadet Nicholas Seaver participated in the Cultural and Language Immersion Professional Development Program in Cairo, Egypt. While there, he took classes in language and culture as well as toured the pyramids.

Two Air Force ROTC students from RIT participated in the Cultural and Language Immersion Professional Development Program offered by the U.S. Air Force. Cadets Nicholas Seaver and Orion Kellogg spent several weeks in Egypt and the Czech Republic, respectively, learning the languages and developing cross-cultural skills to be used upon deployment after graduation.

“This was the best trip of my life so far,” says Seaver, a fourth-year international studies student. "Not only did I make huge strides in my Arabic language abilities, but I also had experiences that I never dreamed I would have.

“We spent most of our time in Cairo, but also saw the cities of Alexandria, Taba and Sharm Al-Shiekh—not to mention the pyramids, museums, ancient churches and mosques, and our sunrise climb to the top of Mount Sinai,” he adds. “My decisions of joining Air Force ROTC and my degree in international studies at RIT are two that I would not change for the world."

Kellogg joined cadets from other schools touring Prague, and participating in lectures on language, communism and Eastern European culture, as well as seeing several plays and musical performances.

“These lectures proved to be extremely interesting. It was a pleasure to witness and learn about a completely different culture outside of America,” says Kellogg.

Support for travel, lodging and other expenses was provided by the Air Force. The Cadet Language Immersion Program also met all requirements for required study abroad.
