RIT Communication Colloquium Focuses on Cybersquatting and Intellectual Property

Oct. 23 talk is free and open to the public

The use of intellectual property in advertising will be the topic of the next communication colloquium sponsored by Rochester Institute of Technology’s Department of Communication.

Robert Croog, principal advertising and copyright attorney for Eastman Kodak Co., will present, “Cybersquatters and Other Thieves: The Use and Misuse of Intellectual Property in Advertising,” at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 23, in Xerox Auditorium, Kate Gleason College of Engineering. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Croog is responsible for the worldwide protection of Kodak’s non-patent intellectual property, and specializes in anti-counterfeiting, advertising, promotion and sponsorship. He is a board member of the Promotion Marketing Association, the Seneca Park Zoo Society, Friends of Eastman Opera and the Harvard-Radcliffe Club of Rochester. He also serves on the advisory board of RIT’s College of Liberal Arts and chairs the ethics committee of the Monroe County Bar Association.

“Robert Croog is a big name in advertising law,” says Rudy Pugliese, associate professor of communication and coordinator of RIT’s communication and media technology program. “He probably knows more about advertising law than anyone else in the area, and our students need to hear what he has to say.”

The monthly colloquium series, sponsored by RIT’s Department of Communication, features a variety of guest speakers from the field, including an upcoming talk from a member of the Advertising Education Foundation.

“The communication colloquium is also helping to promote our new program in advertising and public relations, slated for September 2004,” Pugliese adds.
