RIT Formula Team Competing in the "Land Down Under" This Week

Team of eight students is defending RIT’s championship in the Formula SAE Australasia

Rochester Institute of Technology’s Formula racecar team is defending its championship this week in the Formula SAE Australasia competition, Dec. 5–8, in Carrum Downs, Victoria, Australia. RIT is competing in the contest, where last year it captured first place, for the third consecutive year.

Eight RIT students and advisor Alan Nye, professor of mechanical engineering, traveled "down under." The competition marks RIT’s second international competition this year. In July, RIT earned third place in the annual Formula Student Competition in Leicester, England.

In May, RIT placed fourth in engineering design at the Formula SAE in Pontiac, Mich. RIT has competed in Formula competitions every year since 1993.

The Formula SAE Australasia is sponsored by SAE-Australasia, Holden Ltd., Ford, Toyota and Mitsubishi.
