RIT Hosts Record-Breaking Career Fair, March 29
Hundreds of Rochester Institute of Technology students and alumni, dressed in their best business attire, will fill RIT’s Gordon Field House and Activities Center on Wednesday, March 29. The annual Spring Career Fair, which runs from 11 a. m. to 4 p.m., gives students the opportunity to network with representatives from companies and agencies, all looking to hire RIT students and alumni for full-time and co-op positions.
Featuring 170 employers, the spring fair will be the largest in RIT’s 177-year history, surpassing the record 130 companies and agencies that took part in last year’s Fall Career Fair. The event features a wide variety of companies from across the country, including Boeing, Microsoft, Heinz, Intel and nearly 80 first time attendees.
“The record-setting number of employers attending the Spring Career Fair can be attributed to three factors,” says Manny Contomanolis, associate vice president and director of Cooperative Education and Career Services. “First, companies think highly of RIT as an institution, its students and the education they receive.”
Next, Contomanolis points to an improving job market, which puts companies in a position to hire. Finally, the nature of the event appeals to many employers. They like coming because of the service they receive and the accommodations RIT offers. “Many schools coordinate career fairs, but few achieve the large employer responses that RIT is receiving this year.
RIT holds two campus-wide career fairs each academic year; the other is held in the fall. In addition to these events, specialized career fairs are also offered to provide students networking opportunities in specific business sectors, as well as the federal and non-profit areas.
Note: Founded in 1829, RIT is internationally recognized as a leader in computing, engineering, imaging, technology, fine and applied arts, and education for the deaf. RIT enrolls more than 15,500 students in 340 undergraduate and graduate programs. For the past decade, U.S. News & World Report has ranked RIT as one of the nation’s leading comprehensive universities.
