RIT Talk Will Explore Six Sigma Quality-Management Program

“Six Sigma: What’s Beyond the Hype?” will be the focus of a lecture by Roger Hoerl, manager of the Applied Statistics Lab at GE Global Research, 1-1:50 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, at Rochester Institute of Technology. Hoerl will discuss the history of Six Sigma, advantages and limitations of the quality-management initiative, current trends and future directions.

Hoerl is the co-author of Statistical Thinking: Improving Business Performance, Leading Six Sigma: A Step-by-Step Guide Based on Experience with GE and Other Six Sigma Companies, and Six Sigma Beyond the Factory Floor: Deployment Strategies for Financial Services, Health Care, and the Rest of the Real Economy. He is a fellow of the American Statistical Association and American Society for Quality, and he has been elected to the International Statistical Institute.

The lecture, free and open to the public, will be in RIT’s Xerox Auditorium in the James E. Gleason Building. It is part of the Kate Gleason College of Engineering’s 2005-2006 Distinguished Speaker Series.
