RIT’s Bevier Gallery Debuts Landmark American Posters and Companion Book, Sept. 9
Business executive at Twentieth Century Fox, Mark Resnick, has a passion for collecting posters. The first American poster he purchased was by renowned designer Dorothy Waugh, created in 1934 to promote the national park systems. Now, 15 years later, Resnick and his wife, Maura, have assembled what may be the largest collection of American posters——panning from 1890 to the present, outside of the Smithsonian Institution.
The posters will be unveiled during a landmark exhibition that mirrors American history for the past 110 years. “The American Image: U.S. Posters from the 19th to the 21st Century” opens with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9, at Rochester Institute of Technology’s Bevier Gallery. The show runs through Oct. 11.
Seventy-eight posters from the collection will be featured in the show and also in a companion book produced by RIT’s Cary Graphic Arts Press. During the reception, Resnick will be available for a book signing of “The American Image,” which can be purchased for $50.
The Bevier Gallery is located in the James E. Booth Building (7A) on the RIT campus. Media parking will be available in Lot J.
