SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Chief Marketing and Undergraduate Admissions Officer, the
Executive Director of Admissions (“Executive Director”) provides vision,
leadership on admissions initiatives and creates a thriving work environment
that results in meeting or exceeding enrollment goals. In alignment with the
mission and policies of Gallaudet University, the Executive Director oversees
recruitment programs, application review, communication strategies, database
tracking, and youth programs; represents Admissions both on internal
committees as well as external outreach at schools and conferences; serves as
contact for project collaborations such as MSCHE and donor stewardship
efforts; oversees the assessment efforts; ensures accurate and timely
submission of reports and statistics to the Department of Education, the
Executive Team and the Board of Trustees.

The Executive Director also collaborates extensively to ensure the
development, implementation and operation of cohesive programs and services
for the student population including a smooth enrollment process; and
provides for effective coordination and interaction within the department and
with other divisions and offices of the University.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Provides high-level leadership and direction to a variety of departments
which include Undergraduate and Graduate Recruitment and Outreach, Welcome
Center, Youth Programs and Special Enrollment Projects.

Creates a team and student centric environment; provides ongoing feedback to
employees; completes the annual performance evaluations for employees; set
goals and expectations; resolves workplace conflicts in a timely manner and
seeks support from supervisor, Human Resources, Office of Equal Opportunity
Program, or Office of the Ombuds if needed; promotes a safe and healthy work
environment; and ensures professional development opportunities are provided
to each regular status and extended temporary staff.

Analyzes national, regional and institutional data to better understand the
demographic landscape, market demand and recruitment opportunities; and works
with the Chief Marketing and Undergraduate Admissions Officer and across
functional areas within and outside the unit to develop a comprehensive
recruitment and outreach plan of strategies to reach mainstream and
non-mainstream students in order to meet new enrollment goals and support the
Gallaudet Strategic Plan.

Collaborates with the Marketing team to implement consistent marketing
messages that align with the University brand and ensure that it is expressed
in print, online and on social media; and oversees the design and
implementation of communication flows and outreach campaigns.

Designs and implements an ongoing staff development program for the unit that
focuses on skill development and meaningful connection with peers and the
institution.

Develops a plan to enhance relationships with residential schools, vocational
rehabilitation counselors and organizations serving the needs of students who
are deaf and hard of hearing and families; and collaborates with other units
as needed in this effort.

Maintains ongoing communication with academic administrators and faculty
regarding recruitment collaboration and effectiveness; reviews procedures for
faculty engagement in recruitment activities; and trains faculty on
recruitment messages.

Formulates and administers the department budget; and provides assistance to
the Provost in the preparation and support of annual Federal and
institutional budget requests.

Coordinates assessment functions and integration of strategies, assessments
and indicators following a continuous improvement model using evidence based
strategic management principles.

Provides regular reports about activities, progress, and data analysis to
reflect best practices in higher education.

Implements overall goals, strategies, and operational plans for the unit; and
recommends policies and procedures to the Provost.

Establishes appropriate levels of accountability for unit administrators;
reviews performance on a regular basis to ensure that high standards of
performance are being met and provides feedback; and determines personnel
actions.

Serves as primary contact for project collaborations such as MSCHE and donor
stewardship efforts.

Collaborates extensively to ensure the development, implementation and
operation of cohesive programs and services for the student population
including a smooth enrollment and onboarding process; and provides for
effective coordination and interaction within the department and with other
units and offices of the University.

Collaborates with the Office of Financial Aid and Registrar’s Office to
ensure smooth communication focusing on financial assistance for new
students.

Assists the Chief Marketing and Undergraduate Admissions Officer regarding
the interests and accomplishments of the departments for reporting to the
Board of Trustees.

Effectively represents the University at designated visits, conferences and
events.

Establishes and maintains a positive and supportive working relationship with
co-workers and supervisor.

Shows a genuine commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in the
workplace; and participates in activities and workshops to foster continuous
learning.

Serves as a mandatory Title IX reporter; and takes annual Title IX training
as part of the compliance effort.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Level: 13
Salary: Commensurate with education, experience, and qualifications

Requirements:
SPECIFICATIONS:

Required Minimum Qualifications (When the candidate’s resume meets these
qualifications, it will be screened in.)

Bachelor’s degree.
A minimum six years of professional experience in admissions, recruitment,
education, and/or in a high-level leadership role.
Proven experience in successfully leading teams and providing strategic
directions.
Fluency in American Sign Language.

Preferred Qualifications (While not required, it is an advantage for what the
position needs.)

Master’s degree.
Experience as an academic or administrative leader in an education setting.
Experience with enrollment management practices.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Qualities that will help the incumbent be
more successful in the position.)

Proven ability to inspire, motivate and lead teams.
Knowledge of effective marketing and sales techniques.
Knowledge regarding issues governing student records, policies and procedures
including FERPA.
Knowledge of effective staff development and supervision principles.
Skilled in management and organization.
Excellent communication skills, including written, presentation and
interpersonal.

constituents and groups.
