TITLE: Finance Co-op
POSITION TYPE: Full Time – Temporary (Non-Union)
SCHEDULE: Monday to Friday (with flexibility required)
REPORTS TO: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Bob Rumball Canadian Centre of Excellence for the Deaf (BRCCED) is a
multi-purpose, multi-program facility that
functions as a community centre for the Deaf and as a non-profit charitable
provider of services for the Deaf. The organization
exists to provide care and opportunities in a communication-rich environment
that enhances the quality of life of those we serve.
Under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer, the Finance Co-op person
is primarily responsible for supporting the accounts
receivable function for Bob Rumball Canadian Centre of Excellence for the
Deaf (BRCCED), Bob Rumball Foundation (BRFD)
and Bob Rumball Camp for the Deaf (BRCD). The Finance Co-op maintains
financial records carefully and precisely, entering
accurate information into accounting software and spreadsheets, making
calculations based on previous and upcoming
transactions, ensuring written communication is clear.
Honorarium amount of $2500 will be paid after successful completion of the
co-op term.
PRIMARY DUTIES/REQUIREMENTS
 Under the supervision of the AP Specialist/Senior Accountant, processing,
coding (or checking coding), preparation of
batches, processing cheque runs, matching invoices, distribution of cheques,
filing of invoices and cheque stubs for AP
for BRCCED, BRCD and BRFD
 Under the supervision of the Senior Accountant processes and records AR
for BRCCED and BRFD
 Monitors and reports payment times for vendors
 Prepares bank deposits as required
 Prepare manual cheques as required
 Accounts receivable responsibilities for BRCCED and BRFD
 Assist with the preparation of year end audit files
 Maintains filing systems
 Prepares monthly and ad hoc reports as needed
 Assists in the completion credit card orders, reconciles credit card
transactions
 Directs and responds to inquiries from clients or suppliers
 Responsible for receiving and processing monetary transactions
 Performs other duties as assigned by the Controller or CFO
QUALIFICATIONS
 Diploma/ Certificate in Accounting or related education
 Some training in Accounting
 Experience using Great Plains Software
 Knowledge of GAAP Accounting principles
 Excellent computer skills, intermediate proficiency in Excel, MS office
 Committed to continuing education in accounting or related field
 Experience bookkeeping an asset
 Experience working with the Deaf community an asset
 Experience in non-profit environment is an asset
 Ability to communicate with Deaf staff and knowledge of Deaf culture is
an asset
 Highly developed organizational, interpersonal, problem solving and time
management skills
 Effective verbal, written and listening communication skills
 French language/LSQ an asset
