The American School for the Deaf (ASD) is the oldest permanent school for the deaf, founded in 1817 by Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet and Laurent Clerc. ASD is accredited through the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), as well as the Conference of Educational Administrators of School Programs for the Deaf (CEASD).
ASD is located in West Hartford, a town recognized as one of the top ten towns for raising families. West Hartford residents value education, evidenced by the high quality of public and private schools. There is also much to do in West Hartford. There is a wide array of parks and recreation. There are pools and hiking trails. There are historic sites to visit as well. If shopping is on the list then Blue Back Square, located in the center of town, offers many retail stores and a variety of restaurants to satisfy everyone.
SCOPE OF DUTIES
Under the direction of the Director of Institutional Advancement, the Senior Administrative Assistant will serve as a resource for general information for the Department of Institutional Advancement. Manages the Raiser’s Edge database to maintain accurate data, assists in the enhancement of ASD’s social media presence, and efficiently processes paperwork.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Administrative
•Manage Raiser’s Edge database to maintain accurate data and gift records
•Process donations in a timely manner
•Execute timely acknowledgements
•Manage daily administrative tasks, including timely submission of purchase orders and other required departmental forms
Fundraising:
•Analyze individual solicitation success
•Analyze donor giving trends and complete predictive analysis for planned giving and major gift solicitation
•Conduct prospect research for individual donors
•Assist with special fundraising campaigns
•Assist with cultivation and stewardship activities
Communication
•Assists in the preparation of general correspondence
Marketing/Public Relations
•Enhance ASD’s social medial presence through regular postings about school events, initiatives and news
•Complete regular reviews of ASD’s website content to ensure accuracy and timeliness
Other Related Duties as Assigned
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
•Bachelor's Degree preferred, with at least 1-3 years’ experience in an office setting (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
•Raiser’s Edge Certification preferred
•Fundraising database management experience
•Working knowledge of American Sign Language preferred, or a willingness to learn.
•Excellent written and oral communications skills required.
•Strong organizational, follow-through, and detail skills required.
•Requires ability to juggle multiple priorities.
•Discretion, tact, and high regard for confidentiality required.
