Job Description:
The NTID Deaf Health Care and Biomedical Science Hub (Deaf Hub) has two paid
positions for Summer Healthcare Academic Research Program (SHARP) Novice
Interpreters. Positions are full-time (35 hours/week) for approximately 12
weeks, May 20 to August 10, 2023. Please submit applications through Datrose

To be eligible, you must:
Have graduated from an ITP or started interpreting professionally in the last
5 years (2018-2023)
Be able to work in person at NTID in Rochester, NY
Pass a background check (through Datrose)

This position is ideal for recent graduates who would like experience working
in a research center where ASL is the primary language, with research in
diverse areas such as health literacy, Deaf women’s pregnancy outcomes,
accessibility and technology, and supporting Deaf scientists. Novice
interpreters will have opportunities for supervised interpreting,
observations, professional skill development, networking, and mentorship.
Novice interpreters will interpret and observe small and large group
meetings, presentations, and other Deaf Hub activities. Novice interpreters
are also expected to engage in some research activities, either with Deaf Hub
projects (outside of their interpreting duties) or in supported independent
study.



Requirements:
Duties
Interpret and/or observe meetings; add voiceover to pre-recorded videos in
ASL
Participate in supervision and debriefing; attend PD and skill development
sessions
Assist in coordinating interpreters and other access services for meetings
Assist with other duties as needed

Preferred Qualifications
Ability to work independently and multitask
Ability to interpret between American Sign Language and English
Organized, responsible, professional, and have good people skills

Hours/Days
Flexible schedule between Monday-Friday 8am-7pm ET
