Job Description

Middle School Teacher of the Deaf (grades 5-8)
184-day work year
-Self-contained classroom (max of 8-10 students), with many students pushing out to general education for some classes with an interpreter
-Champion Teachers start August 16, 2024 and year ends May 22, 2025 (may have slightly different schedule due to working for the ESC - ESC convocation day required. Date TBD in August)
-Current student schedule is arrival at 7:48 a.m. and dismissal at 2:30 p.m.

-The salary schedule begins at $38,076 for a teacher with a bachelor’s degree and no experience.
-TCESC pays 90 percent of a teacher’s healthcare premium each month.
-Teachers accrue paid sick leave and also have three personal days per year.
-TCESC pays for a $50,000 life insurance policy.
Requirements

-You are fluent in American Sign Language.
-You have a Hearing Impaired Intervention Specialist license from the Ohio State Board of Education – or will be eligible for one by the start of the 24-25 school year.
-Preferably have some experience with students who are deaf and hard of hearing.
-You understand deaf culture and have an awareness of community resources.
-You are comfortable working with a team of adults including classroom assistants, sign language interpreters and other teachers in the building.
-You are comfortable facilitating the use of assistive technology and hearing assistive devices.
