Job Description
BIW’s Life Cycle Engineering Department supports modernization design, construction, and test of in-service Navy DDG 51 and DDG 1000 surface combatants in multiple locations around the world. The DDG 51 Engineering team is seeking an Engineering Technical Point of Contact (TPOC) to provide technical leadership for CS/C4I Ship Alterations.

The successful candidate will perform duties that include, but are not limited to the following:

Serve as Technical Point of Contact (TPOC) for Combat System/C4I modernization alterations aboard DDG 51 Class ships as assigned.
Interface with the Navy, Navy Contractors, BIW Class Design and BIW management.
Assemble Technical Data and Government Furnished Information (GFI) into packages suitable for use by Design for Ship Installation.
Provide technical leadership for Ship Installation Drawing (SID) package development for Ship Alterations tasked to Planning Yard and PSA.
Support Design in the resolution of waterfront Engineering issues that may arise during installation of Ship Alterations during CNO Availabilities.
Brief shipcheck teams to ensure all applicable guidance is followed and accompany the Design team on ship checks as required.
Interface with NAVSEA, the NSWCs and other contractors as required in seeking solutions for CS/C4I issues.
Participate in off-site meetings and other events on an occasional basis.
Participate in special projects and lead technical meetings as assigned.
Develop and process Ship Alteration Technical Data in accordance with schedule constraints and GSO compliance.
Develop ROM estimates for emergent CS/C4I design and engineering work.
Write/review Ship Change Documents (SCD's) for all assigned ShipAlts.
Occasional travel is required.

Required/Preferred Education/Training
BS in Engineering is Required.

Engineer I - 0-2 years’ experience preferred.

Engineer II - 2 years’ minimum experience Required.
Engineer III - 3 years’ minimum experience Required.
Required/Preferred Experience
Familiarity with DDG 51 class preferred.
Experience in a shipyard, marine, or industrial environment preferred.
Familiarity with ship construction and overhaul specifications preferred.
Experience with Navy CS/C4I ship integration preferred.
Strong Project Management/Engineering skills required.
Must have the flexibility to work in a fast paced environment under the pressure of changing and often conflicting priorities.
Ability to multi-task and manage simultaneous projects required.
Strong research skills and attention to detail required.
Self-motivation, strong work ethic and ability to work independently required.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment with varying personalities required.
Competence in MS Office products and general PC skills required.
Strong oral and written communication skills required. *Bath Iron Works has a full time ASL interpreter on staff to facilitate communication for interviews and on the job needs for our deaf employees.
