SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Executive Director of Strategic Planning, the Senior Projects Manager will oversee and manage the Kendall Division II Memorial Project (KDIIMP) from its current project definition through development, design, and construction to ensures the KDIIMP’s success in the overall execution of the physical memorial as well as the long-term maintenance and viability of the memorial.

The Senior Projects works with multiple units to develop project plans, timelines, and budgets; leads the planning and implementation of a university-wide collaboration that includes a multi-year project plan(s); manages the process for key leaders and stakeholders to effectively work together; provides leadership for the integration of key aspects of the bilingual mission into the KDIIMP; manages multiple responsibilities simultaneously; and oversees the design and regular monitoring of key measures of progress.

The Senior Projects Manager must demonstrate a deep understanding of the culture, values, and history that serve as the foundation for the KDIIMP and demonstrates the ability to apply that knowledge to all aspects of the project.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

I. Oversees and manages the Kendall Division II Memorial Project (KDIIMP) from its current project definition through development, design, and construction to ensures the KDIIMP’s success in the overall execution of the physical memorial as well as the long-term maintenance and viability of the memorial.

II. Demonstrates a deep understanding of the culture, values, and history that serve as the foundation for the KDIIMP and demonstrates the ability to apply that knowledge to all aspects of the project.

III. Works with multiple units to develop project plans, timelines, and budgets that support the KDIIMP including but not limited to Office of the President, Office of Development, Campus Planning, Center for Black Deaf Studies, Office of Communications and more.

IV. In accordance with University best practices, leads the planning and implementation of a university-wide collaboration that includes a multi-year project plan(s); manages the process for key leaders and stakeholders to effectively work together and meet the established goals and timelines of the project; and provides guidance and support to the KDIIMP Steering Committee and Co-Chairs.

V. Provides leadership for the integration of key aspects of the bilingual mission into the KDIIMP.

VI. Manages multiple responsibilities simultaneously; uses a collaborative process to define the specific roles and responsibilities for team members and cultivates successful cross-divisional, team-based efforts.

VII. Oversees the design and regular monitoring of key measures of progress.

VIII. Documents KDIIMP progress and implementation for reporting, historical, and other purposes; prepares reports as needed for the Board of Trustees, U.S. Department of Education, and other purposes; and develops communications for assigned responsibilities including status updates for key internal and external stakeholders.

IX. As assigned, supervises unit personnel, external contractors, and/or student interns.

X. As assigned, maintains fiscal accountability for assigned budgets; manages assigned resources and performs administrative responsibilities in compliance with policies, procedures, and timelines.

XI. In future years, leads aspects of the University’s strategic planning process including priority-setting, plan development, strategy groups, and campus-wide engagement; oversees assigned aspects of mission-furthering work as it relates to the strategic plan.

XII. Uses advancing technologies to enhance the University’s strategic plan ability to achieve its intended outcomes e.g., the Clerc Center website, on-line courses, videoconferencing, etc.

XIII. Establishes and maintains a positive and supportive working relationship with co-workers and supervisor.

XIV. Shows a genuine commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace; and participates in activities and workshops to foster continuous learning.

XV. Serves as a mandatory Title IX reporter; and takes annual Title IX training as part of the compliance effort.

XVI. Serves as an active, contributing member of Gallaudet University and performs other related duties, as assigned.

XVII. Performs other related duties, as assigned.

SPECIFICATIONS:

Required Minimum Qualifications (When the candidate’s resume meets these qualifications, it will be screened in.)

Bachelor’s degree.
A minimum five years of professional experience leading short- and long-range projects from planning through implementation, dissemination, and monitoring.
Ability to converse fluently in high-level professional and academic discourse in American Sign Language.
Preferred Qualifications (While not required, it is an advantage for what the position needs.)

Master’s degree.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Qualities that will help the incumbent be more successful in the position.)

Demonstrated experience managing multiple, complex, high-level responsibilities simultaneously.
Evidence of project, completion, and goal attainment.
Evidence of effective writing and presentation skills for general and professional audiences.
Demonstrated skill in effective problem solving and decision-making.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and to cultivate an atmosphere of teamwork.
Excellent analytic and organizational skills.
Current computer skills including the ability to use and/or learn relevant project management software.
Perform with a high degree of skill and autonomy.

Upon completion of the Kendall Division II Memorial project, the incumbent will be assigned to new projects as directed by the supervisor.

The successful candidate will undergo a background check that must be cleared prior to working at Gallaudet University.
