Program highlights:
•9-week hands-on laboratory research training opportunity addressing problems relevant to health and the environment (https://bcmb.utk.edu/reu/)
•Mentoring in faculty laboratories in the following Departments or Programs at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville:
Biochemistry & Cellular and Molecular Biology, Biomolecular and Chemical Engineering
Microbiology Entomology and Plant Pathology, Genome Science and Technology.
•Participate in academic and professional development/career opportunity workshops
•Present research findings at the UT Summer Symposium at the end of the program
•$600/week stipend (9 weeks) for each student participant, additional complete support for on-campus housing, and reimbursement for travel costs
Who should apply?
•Highly motivated Deaf and hard-of-hearing undergraduate students with a major in Biology, Chemistry, or Physical Sciences/Engineering who are interested in molecular and cellular biological research.
•Other highly motivated undergraduate students who are interested in scientific research and education, Deaf culture, and developing and refining skills in American Sign Language (ASL).
