The main purpose of this position is to coordinate the Division's program and policy for rehabilitation services for deaf or hard of hearing (D/HH) consumers, and to provide statewide administrative support and technical assistance in the areas of programs, services, and employment supports to individuals who are deaf and hard of hearing.
Position Duties:
To enhance vocational rehabilitation employment services to individuals who are D/HH, by coordinating, planning, and developing statewide activities and specialized programs or projects. Collaborates with community partners in areas of special D/HH needs. Provides leadership and technical assistance to DORS staff regarding policies, procedures, agency practices, and job placement issues, such as reasonable accommodations or application of Assistive Technology (A.T.). Provides community leadership, technical assistance and consultation to employers, public, private, non-profit agencies, community rehabilitation programs, and other organizations. on specific job placement and employment activities. Works collaboratively with agency Business Services Specialists to improve successful employment development and outcomes, and ensure they are aware of reasonable accommodations specific to D/HH consumers. Recruit, train, and monitor vendors who specifically serve D/HH consumers, for quality and effectiveness of services. Develops and provides orientation and training curriculum for new Rehabilitation Counselors for the Deaf (RCD), and new Supervisors.
Education:
Master’s Degree in Vocational Rehabilitation, or closely related Human Services field or 36 hours of equivalent post-baccalaureate course work.
Experience:
Three years in the provision of Vocational Rehabilitation services to individuals who are deaf/hard of hearing, or otherwise directly serving the vocational needs of individuals who are deaf/hard of hearing.
Notes:
1. Two additional years of experience may be substituted for the Master’s degree or 36 hours of equivalent post-baccalaureate course work.
2. The above requirements are set by the Maryland State Department of Education in accordance with Education Article, Section 2-104.
Selective Qualifications:
Applicants must meet the selective qualification(s) to be considered. Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.
• Work experience developing and maintaining relations within the Deaf/Hard of Hearing community, including colleges/universities and non-profit organizations.
