POSITION SUMMARY
Provide systems administration, lab management, and end user support, including specialized support for faculty, staff and student needs regarding technology specific to supporting deaf and hard of hearing individuals.
Manage day to day operations of department computing activities and directs student employee’s daily activities. Provides mentoring, instruction and knowledge transfer to student employees and Client Support Specialists.
Confers with faculty and staff to determine types of hardware and software required to support department or computer lab requirements and technology integration.
Responsible for department security administration and ensures adherence to the RIT Information Security Office standards.
Serves on teams and committees to define department needs, both internal to NTID and working with peers within other colleges and ITS.
Performs analytical, technical, and administrative work in the planning, design, and installation of new and existing personal computer systems.
Oversees or performs systems administration functions in computer environments. Installs new and maintains existing hardware and software.
Responsible for local area networks and computer lab operations.
Writes programs to fulfill requirements, or selects appropriate off-the-shelf software and modifies to suit. Manages project and personnel required to implement selected solutions. Develops and maintains appropriate documentation.
Prepares lab technology and computer systems based communications for faculty, staff and students through various media including Web-based.
Maintains or utilizes telecommunications and data communications protocols.
Continually improves technical knowledge of operating and network environments including multiple platforms; trains faculty, staff and students as necessary on new software and technologies; and enhances customer service and communication skills.
Responsible for department digital signage management and the installation, maintenance and management of the various electronic displays.

DETAILED REQUIREMENTS
Computer Systems Administration:
7 physical servers, 43 virtual servers, and approximately 1700 workstations for faculty, staff, and labs, including 200 laptops used to deliver access services to students/faculty/staff for all RIT classes and events.
Provide support for approximately 522 faculty-staff and approximately 1500 students. All department faculty, staff, and students belong to several user groups. Virtual Machine hosting. Desktop support and administration of Mac OSX machines is also required.
Support for faculty and staff mobile devices such as iPhones, iPads, Android phones and tablets, etc.
Support, technology evaluation and recommendation, purchasing and installation for 65 classrooms, labs and meeting rooms
File & Print sharing for faculty, staff, and students.
Software license management.
Remote administration, installation, and configuration services including scripting of software distribution packages.
Creation and scripting of software distribution packages to support security patching and application updates of all PCs, Macs and servers within NTID.
Utilization of the Ivanti management environment for (1) tracking inventory, (2) remote control, (3) packaging/software deployment, (3) computer provisioning/imaging, (4) OS/Application patching, (5) security/compliance, (6) scripting, (7) reporting.
Research, evaluate and recommend new technology for use in 65 classrooms, labs and meeting spaces or by end users including custom developed solutions and coding to support NTID’s specialized requirements.
Administer yearly equipment purchasing. Negotiate with vendors to secure best pricing on equipment, coordinate quoting and purchasing by working with appropriate purchasing and financial departments.
Provide support for 4 buildings located in dispersed areas of campus, plus multiple smaller locations for NTID staff located in other colleges within RIT.

-Create security access and restrictions to network resources for approximately 522 faculty-staff and approximately 1500 students. All department faculty, staff, and students belong to multiple user groups which are used to grant access to PC logins, file shares, and printer shares.

Required Minimum Qualifications
-Bachelors or equivalent experience, with a technical major, such as engineering or computer science 4 to 7 years’ experience
-American Sign Language - Knowledge of American Sign Language or willingness to learn
-Extensive knowledge of Windows OS and Windows Server. Knowledge of Linux and Unix operating systems a plus
-Familiarity working within a Microsoft Windows Active Directory environment and using security group policy objects.
-Advanced understanding of computer security practices and specific tools that protect computing environments, including a solid understanding of server, network and desktop security.
-Troubleshooting hardware issues and replacing parts such as hard drives, memory, motherboards and processors.
-Customer support experience.
-Familiarity working with imaging deployment software such as Ivanti
